Meet your therapist
I graduated from the University of Washington with a Masters in Social Work in June 2013. While there, I studied Community Centered Integrative Practice with a focus on family healing, historical trauma, and intergroup dialogue. I also hold dual Bachelors degrees in International Studies and Near Eastern Language & Civilization with an emphasis on refugee and immigrant studies.
In my postgraduate career, I spent five years working with children, youth, and families in crisis in both the child welfare and inpatient mental healthcare systems and over five additional years treating adults in private practice.
Through my experience and training, I have come to see the resilience inherent to each of us and how we sometimes get in our own way on the path to healing and happiness. Our self-imposed limitations are compounded by systemic barriers, which include what messages we are told about what to have, be, or do by a society that profits from our sense of despair, disconnect, and inadequacy.
I envision my role to support you in identifying and working through these barriers using what strengths already exist within you. My intention is to provide you with a safe and affirming space, free of judgement, in which to explore what challenges you are currently facing with the benefit of being truly seen and heard.
When I am not practicing therapy, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our infant son as well as friends and family. I also write and speak under the name Mirella Stoyanova. To learn more about that body of work, you may visit my website here.
